When we were in Oklahoma City, John gave us a tour of the National Weather Center. This was surprisingly very interesting. It is so astounding to see the mass amount of computers pulling data from all over the world tracking storm patterns, lightening, hail, running algorithms to try and increase tornado lead time, you name - it's happening here.
While most of what went on at the National Weather Center was way over my head It was still really astounding to see and I loved this giant globe that rotate between showing all sorts of different data from flight activity to lightening strikes.
And, we got to see Dorothy! from Twister and also the real machine she was designed from in the movie, Toto. (Toto never actually worked). Also, Caton was able to pick up a Twister fact sheet which came in handy later that evening when a Twister debate arose amongst some of John's friends.
Caton: (pulls out sheet and reads facts off of it)
John's roommate, Alec: What do you have that piece of paper for??? Did you just research random facts about Oklahoma to brush up before you came here???
