Stump

Last weekend Martin and I enjoyed a visit to western NY to have a second thanksgiving (this time with my family) and to catch up with old friends. On Friday night, we played Stump. What is stump, you ask? Don't worry - I had no idea what it was either.
 It's Amazing.

You start with a stump. Add in a bucket of nails and a hammer and you have all the fixings for a night filled with fun.

First, everyone pounds a nail just slightly into the stump. Then you all gather up close to lay claim to your nail. The fun is about to begin....

You grab the hammer and throw it so it spins in the air and then you catch it. After you catch your hammer you get to swing at a nail. If you don't catch the hammer you lose your turn. Bonus Points: Throw the hammer under your leg for two hits. Behind your back for three!

See my love above very concentrated, but not with a very good catch. It's going to be hard to hit a nail holding a hammer like that. Oh yeah (Caviat: you must take your swing however you catch the hammer)

If your nail gets bent down sideways you can pass on a turn and straighten it up, but once the head is in - you're out. The last nail standing wins the game! Just make sure you don't hit your own nail!

This obviously isn't the safest game, BUT it is so much fun. We played it all night long ( I won once!) Martin wasn't so spectacular - he missed the stump and hit my knee! Also, it was great to see me long lost friend, Amanda, who moved to Boston and is no longer just a short drive away!
